3D ASTRONOMY PICTURES PUBLICALLY RELEASED BY NASA
  to bottom
You need 3D glasses with red and green
lenses to see the stereo

Since this page was created, Nasa has released many new red/green stereo images in copious quantities. You can hunt them up. I have done my share of illustrative examples with these

COMPARING 'BINNOCULAR' AND 'VIRTUAL' STEREO

The
intent
in the following
is simply to prove that stereoscopic
capability is inherent in any mono photo and this is
true even for astronomy images, in spite of their extremely
narrow cross section radii, even in such narrow widths as seen from
here in real space, we find that that intrinic cross hatching of incident light
rays incoming to the telescope camera's lens carry holographic information
in photon phasing. Cross hatching means photons from the upper left
of image enter lower right of the film frame, and visa versa lower
right image photons enter upper right of film frame, and
so on, the photons have a spin doctor intelligence
which stores their (stereo) source on film.
There, you've heard the news blasted
into the open with a blowtorch.
I hope it scorches your
deep center enough
to make you yelp

DOUBLE YOUR STEREO HINT
Some
of the
more than 5000
images in Galaxies In
Chaos can even double in stereo
if you view them through colored 3D
glasses and also in any of the 3 stereo
methods Galaxies In Chaos to view
the more than 5000 images

THE EAGLE NEBULA

Nasa 3D version of an image by Hubble

The Nasa
3D pic of the
Eagle Nebula is quite
interesting from another aspect:
it seems 3D whether the colored 3D
glasses are worn red-blue for left-right
or visa versa. Blue-red for left-right
eye is the correct view

My Virual 3D
treatment is actually
a better picture all around in
that details are clearer and the whole
field of vision has more distinction, the
only main difference being the Nasa
3D version has much greater
realistic fields of
depth for the
stars

Comparison
of professional
astronomy's 3D images of
the Eagle Nebula (uses red and blue
colors for binoccular 3D separation) and my
'virtual' 3D views (from single mono images) show my
3D is correct, the 3D is the same as in the professional
astronomy 3D formats. A further advantage in mine are
that my images are sharper in detail and clarity,
and do not have intrinsic blurr caused by
overlap of the two different colors
crossing over into the opposite
fields of vision (left eye
right eye), my images
are free of this
intrinsic
flaw.
On the
other hand,
the professional
astronomy views have greater
3D seen at once using colored 3D glasses

3D VOLCANO

An Earth
orbiting satellite's view
of a volcano on a North-East penninsula
of Russia near the far east tip of the Alleutian Islands

NEXT

An experiment
to see what the stereo
is like when the stereo input is
doubled. Focus the two together through
the 3D red and blue glasses for the experiment. The
stereo increases in exaggeration, becoming more similar in
stereo degree to the Nasa 3D image of the Grand Canyon
on Mars shown below. Exaggerated stereo is useful
(even if not correct) if something new or
useful can be learned by the
exaggeration

A Virtual
Stereo view of a volcano

SMOKE STREAMERS ISSUE SIDEWAYS FROM A VOLCANO

The volcano
image is displayed
larger than original size
resulting in a resolution almost
on the verge of dissolving. Notice how the
Virtual 3D overlay view re-enforces positive
elements so that the image resolution
seems substantially improved

Interestingly
you will notice a
marginal but perceptable
degree of stereo if you hold the
3D red and blue glasses to this image above
of the Virtual Stereo volcano. Any picture which has
color, will reveal some 3D when viewed through red and blue
lensed 3D glasses. Simply said, the red lens blocks out red in
the picture (even if you cannot see any with the naked eye, and
the blue lens blocks out the blue, representing two slightly
separate images superimposed as one to each eye, ergo
marginal 3D. This is true even for seeming black
and white pictures, which often have color
tones unseen to the naked eye to boost
their contrast or details. Only a
true 100% black and white pic
will not have marginal 3D
when viewed through
the glasses

Since
distance
separation is not
a factor in producing the
marginal true 3D it does not matter
which eye is covered by the blue lens, which
by the red, both views are the same

The
marginal
3D is lost with
also lost much of the inherent
virtual 3D when images (for example the volcanos)
are viewed through 3D red/blue glasses when
focused in overlay

ETA CARINAE NEBULA

A dramatically
different effect occurs
per left eye blue, or left eye
red, the 'left eye red lens' view suspect
in that the mid portion is shrieking flat almost
like a hard paper collar has been inserted and
photographed. The left-eye-blue version
shows deep scalloping in the foreward
dumbell, which most accurately
matches the Virtual Stereo
versions next

Original

Another Nasa 3D (earlier version)

True
to life,
the Galaxies
In Chaos view has
the same basic stereo
features and details, in fact
the a-symmetric hang of the dumbell,
vertical striations covering the right billow
and concentric rings at 90 degrees in rotation forming
the bell of the left billows, is more plain than ever, in the
Galaxies In Chaos 3D view. The virtual stereo version Original
from Hubble, presented in stereo from a single mono, platformed
two side by side, one displayed slightly wider, the other
slightly higher, the difference in the two
sizes less than 1%

The
dumbells
compare straight
across Nasa's 3D to Virtual
3D - in Nasa's version the jet flare
in the middle is more pronouned and flat than
in the Virtual 3D view when viewed with your left eye
covered by red, and blue for right. Bear in mind the Virtual
3D views were enhanced by a lot of hard work done at home on
a Windows 95 PC working with original images supplied by Nasa
public releases. The current Nasa 3D version is a new release
in which upscaling was done by Nasa image engineers to
bring out the laser rays not seen in the original.
Nasa's original stereo of Eta Carinae
is the grape version seen above

QUARTZ-LIKE FORMATION
BLASTING OUT OF THE ETA CENTERZONE

The
front end
Left) is essentially
irregularly flat, not a round
bellow. The rear end can also be seen as
irregularly flat, pending correct interpretation
of certain folding flattend textures in the
rear bellows when seen with keen
interest in 3D

Extremely
ribbed texture
(ribbed as in roped and
knotted - visions of the alien in
aliens come to mind). Every detail including
the smallest has (it seems) been produced
by a chuff from the Eta hot star kernal

NEXT

The
Eiffle
Tower (tall
spike in center with
21st century celebration streamers).
An outpush vectored north-west which pro image
engineers have tended to write out as spurious,
turns out to be a tongue with cross ribs,
an obvious artifact caused within
Eta energy fields

Hard work
is mentioned
because these images
WERE a lot of hard work each
was worked many times until finally
enhancements and display parameters brought
each view above to this degree of Virtual 3D. Usually
images are easily prepared and displayed showing acceptable
Virtual 3D. It is in particular cases such as the Eta Carinae
Nebula in which it was felt laser rays existed therefore should
be presented. Getting ray beam fragments to appear in an
image both still readable and with Virtual 3D,
was the hard work. The laser image
next was also a lot of hard
work, the original
hardly showed
a ray. Seven
rays, and a jet,
for a total of 8 rays,
are visible in high enhancement

The

rays is convered here

THE GREAT
CANYON ON MARS

The stereo
degree in this image
is highly exaggerated by Nasa
for the sake of impact and pleasing effect.
If the canyon is 3,000 miles long, it can't be 700
miles deep, when the caption says 7 miles deep. However
at 7 miles deep compared to 3,000 miles long, very little of
the depth could be seen in stereo, hence the magnificent
exaggeration done by pro image engineers
before publically releasing the image

VIRTUAL 3D's
TREATMENT OF A MARS CANYON

The
3D in this
magnification is
actually quite elegant
concidering it is from a single
mono picture, in this case a second
version of the same is slightly enhanced
in color density giving slightly more depth
to the stereo field when the two images are
superimposed. What 3D is present is 100%
authentic to original on Mars the only
difference being the stereo on
Mars is much greater, this
is an awesome canyon

Original, then two enhancements ny a moi

The
above Mars
canyon 3D images amply
demonstrate how much information
can be found in what often seem mundane or
static locked images, for instance most people would
have automatically assumed the original Nasa image was
as good as it can get, but the above enhancements prove
otherwise. And secondly, home grown stereo reveals
in an instant many dynamic features that
are otherwise subject to complete
misinterpretation when
viewed or studied
in mono, in
other
words,
mono image
studies can be and
usually are completely misleading
when used to try and hammer concepts stamped in iron

3D SATURN

A 3D VIEW OF MERCURY

This Nasa
image requires the
two images be superimposed in
similar fashion to viewing Virtual Stereo 3D.
The result is slightly hard on the eyes
in that the originals are not
perfectly horizontally
matched

Here
is the
same, assisted
by me, making it easier
to see this Mercury image's 3D as
anticipated by Nasa. I cut the single frame
into two parts (left and right) and added some
gamma correction (density) plus a small degree
of increased color (red green blue equally)
to the left image. That is all that I did,
nothing more. The left image now
easier to see presents much
more realistic stereo, as
anticipated by Nasa
