Ghost pillars can be loosely described as invisible until their host image is highly enhanced. There are two pillars of note in the ghost category, the HH34 pillar investigated as follows, and a ghost pillar on the edge of the trapezium in Orion.

Ghosters, like other pillars, seem to be floaters moving on their own like clones of Mt Everest gliding along eerily, or stuck in place within a greater mass body which itself is on the move carrying the Mt Everest clone with it.

Ghosters, like other pillars, seem to be made of darker matter, they are not transparent since nothing can be seen seeming passing through from behind, the ghost edges are abrupt cutoff bounderies between forms around the outside vrs forms within the pillar, this is true for all pillars.

EXOTIC OBJECT HERBIG-HARO 34

Click for full size

In this ESO image of an exotic object known as Herbig-Haro 34 (HH-34) has a ghost pillar, appearing only under very high enhancement. The pillar is in a formation which also has a red jet from a hidden star, the jet is shown in red in astronomy images in choice of false color in keeping with the energy frequencies of such jets which radiate predominantly in red light.

The red jet though seeming abruptly cut off, actually continues to the red blob seen deep in depth, after passing through a ridge of obscuring haze. The red jet is vetored away from us, into depth. The jet's hidden source is actually closer, though we cannot see the source in this image even when the image is very highly enhanced.

If I have read the literature correctly, it is believed by astronomers that a star is puffing twin jets in opposite directions thus the star in the middle is not seen.

But, I am not sure, the ESO literature may be talking about the twin yellow crescents laying on either side of the red jet source star.

In the GIC position, the yellow crescents are not concidered intrinsically mystical, and the key source star is at the head end of the red jet, and, at this thin outpost, is travelling a fast path up further into the viewfield from a source of energetic ejecta that started where the large red blob now hangs around within a deeper depth within the nebula. This reverses any position that the red jet is emmiting from the source star which is stationary, and the red blob in the depths is where the jet is smashing into resistive matter. It is far easier for me producing GIC to see that the source star is fast amove and the red knob, where the 'smoking' started, instead of coming to a crunching stop against a subway train barrier, is, initially and still is, stationary.

The narrow part of the red jet is slightly over exposed into a solid red color over which a white streak seems to float separated from the solid red, it is abberation not cosmological physics causing the separation, if less exposed, the thin part of the red streak would probably be knotted and/or twisted and the knob in the cavern would probably be too dim to be seen.

Even though pale enough to be a problem, the red knob in the cavern can be seen to have a second red spot deeper behind it, glowing through the 3D haze. There is enough of the 'problem', lucky us, to let us see it may be a flaring heat front similar in kind to a flaring heat front seen in HH-47.

By luck a particularly good stereo view next shows that the ghost pillar is far back in the rear region, what light was captured by the telescope a matter of chance since no one was focusing on it (the ghost pillar).

Another HH-34 image shows a much wider field, with the profound yellow higharch a small yellow artifact toward the upper middle of the field, the image source is one I have lost track of oops sorry.

The red jet, featured so prominantly in red in the above ESO images, had instead been produced in green seen by clicking on the original next. It is possible this mystery image is an infra red view of HH-47, I could be wrong, I do not have a photographic memory - pun intended.

Click for original.

Vertical scan lines from the digital rastering of the cam camera dominate this mystery image.

One section seems unusually irregular at full size but when reduced can be seen to also comprise vertical scan rasters.

And here is where foot in mouth kicks in again - hitting on an Orion GIC page looking for an image I immediately spot the above image and a direct link to its source in APOD. Like I say, it is a good thing not all humans embarrass easily.

DSS

Dss images of the region of space housing HH-34, color enhanced to better show details for use in GIC, reveal a strong forward bulging protrudance, and no starry background, indicating a great deal more than we see exists behind the surface.

GHOST PILLAR IN ORION

The flare turns out to be a ghost pillar, not recognized until the image is very highly enhanced, then, have a look.

It is obvious that earlier Hubble image factoring expertise was playing havoc with border patches mismatches etc. (straight lines) on the other other hand the image was obviously focusing in on something interesting to be seen with less, rather than more, tiny accutely focused patches.

The pillar can actually be spotted in a later Hubble revision known as the Orion mosaic.

This larger pulled back Hubble view does not have enough substance in it to allow a closeup of the ghost pillar to be zoomed and examined. The closeup further above is, for the moment, the best it gets. Astronomers were not looking for ghost pillars when they factored both of these two Orion trapezium and trapezium mosaic views. I will tell you what I am most interested in at the moment, it is the open book, and the radial spread from which seems to issue one of the edges of the ghost pillar.

RED JETS

A red jet fires out from the Trifid nebula.

Next, a turn to red jets in earnest and an exploration to determine if these are smoke trails left as contrails by fast moving objects whose nuclear furnaces are burning in earnest.

This GIC enhancement of the redjet in the upper right window of the above Hubble composite, has been rotated by 90 degrees to better see in widescreen stereo the counter clockwise windings around the shell of the red jet.

It is known (let it be so fingers crossed) that such hood shielding wrapping in caped vortex around a source could not be produced by the sourcing horking pork in so regular a way that the caped vortex has to be automatically formed. Rather instead see a source both moving forward as its energy jets produce sidespread in just such a regular way as to produce the enlarging wrapping cape. I see motion so easily, I see stationary so impossibly hard. I add this above to the accumulating evidences which show that smokers move.

Please note the high degree of order in the wrapping of the cacoon, it is suggested that knotted coiling ropes in redjets, on a much smaller scale, are due to similar propigating corkscrew processes by smoky stars on the move instead of creating nebulas around themselves as the star sits stationary in the middle, puffing away.

The cacoon windings are revealing a coiling force at work. No property descriptions are available for use in GIC to account for the coiling.

On the other hand, jetting star animations by hubble show matter knobs and bursts propigating out a long axis, which voids everything I have been saying about smoking stars on the move, unless Hubble did not regard a slight displacement in camera focus when taking shots for the animations, in which, if telescope positions were displaced, these could be stars on the move leaving smoke trails that look like jets hurtling out from stationary bodies but are actually trails being left behind by stars that are moving. The right image is of HH30, shown above in stereo.

If matter was pushing, being jetted out, the animation would look as follows, with another change (which I could not do without effort) the change being the preliminary first vaporous discharge would be smallest, the discharge head swelling as more matter is jetted into it. In the original animation above, the dynamic is a reverse order where the star producers are moving away increasing the column length to the jet head.

Jetting star animations by Hubble.

Two sets of HH-47 jets are shown next, the first shows more clearly the inner roping and coiling of the jet itself, the second shows more of the outer green haze surrounding. The jet is issuing from an unseen source (presumed by astronomers to be an energetic star) hidden in the top bundle.

Here is another twisted roping knotted smoke trail, this is made by collaging pieces of nebula Hubble 5 in selections along a path suggesting a smoking trail which could be created if the nebula kernal center was fast moving leaving its nuclear discharges trailing being in a smoke trail.

I think, in mind's eye, that the simulation is rather good in depicting how a nebula can produce a knotted twisting rope of a smoke trail.

A GIC enhanced black and white from this Hubble site shows the HH47 plumes in detail.

Click for black and white full size.

I can easily be proven wrong by a single fact that changes everything, otherwise I definately see a smoking star on the move, it starting with a nova produced to look something like this (image right below) then took off (or kept moving) leaving a long looping roping trail then heated up again producing what would be like a spider nebular (image left below), except, on the move, the spider ladder pattern is stretched out instead of moving out through two sides around a stationary center.

RED JET IN HH-34

This next closeup of the red jet, shows it is passing into the open from an inner hidden source, in stereo overlay (merge the two images together by eyesight), the red jet is seen to be vectoring away from us into hazy depths so in fact we are observing a larger longer jet made seemingly smaller by its parallax angle.

The impression this image creates, particularly when viewed in stereo overlay, is that the irratic star source is migrating to the left, leaving a jet contrail expanding at the right, actually the contrail (like that of a high flying jet aircraft) is more or less stationary relative to the speed at which the irratic star heads west.

Since the star's path of travel is transversal (horizontal), doppler readings would not reveal that the star is travelling west, leading to an impression that the red jet is expanding to the east and is pushing hard out of the star, hard enough to impact against matter through which the red jet plows. However, if the red jet is a trail being left behind, like a contrail of smoke from a burning star, no extra physics is needed to try and explain why the red jet can have so much energy, since, actually, it doesn't have extra force to begin with. It is just a smoke trail, being left behind.

And, fast travelling mavericks, single stars, hurtling on their own through free space (not locked into an entity formation) are known. I have seen links, but cannot cite one - do not have a photographic memory - ahem. Seeeee how the evidence is adding up.

SMOKING STARS

If you want to bend your brain around smoking stars, link to this page which features the amazing star dances of Antares and friends, which was promoted upon realizing the even more revealing star dancing of the Pleiades.

The realization of ionnizing polarizations setting the right angle vectors of diaphanous drifts across stars came in direct result of trying to fathom the Pleiades stars in company with the drift hazed stars of Antares in company with the drifts of the Chamelaeleon complex which follows.

SMOKING STARS IN THE CHAMAELEON COMPLEX

Smoking stars have actually been seen. Witness these two examples. Both have broad sweeping trails due to proximity with nearby other smokers bending their paths and spreading their contrails. Drifts whispy around these exampled stars, but also take a proxy votes saying these examples are also smoking. The fact of HH-34 is it seems to be a loner, ergo a long undisturbed contrail.

A star in the Chamaeleon complex by ESO is definately a smoker, with rill ribs.

Incidentally, a dark cavity has shown up in a Dss image enhanced by histogram equalize, of stars of the Chamaeleon complex. In scale, if correct, the dark cavity appears to be holding two stars whose lights are dimly seen inside the dark cavity.

Dark cavities, ergo dark holes, are seen in Dss plates usually on the scale of large galaxies and are suspected to be dark galaxies. Dark holes are a major GIC subject of inquiry.

Merope, in Pleiades - not exactly a smoking star, but some trailing is seen.

Merope and other Pleiades stars are looked at closely here is context of polarization ionnizations from nearby stars forcing the direction of diaphanous bands across the stars at right angles to the direction of the ionnizing polarization - this is very important information.

Merope is one of the Pleiades seven sisters stars. Really good images of the Pleiades seem really hard to come by. Next is one image good enough to show smoky stars amongst tumultuous trails.

One particular image is interesting - an X-ray by Rosat satellite.

This false colored Rosat X-ray telescope image of Pleiades space shows intense cell walls structuring the X-ray frequencies of that region in space, the cell walls not seen nor even indicated in the Rosat original image release.

BACK TO THE TOPIC OF RED JETS

Carrying the arguement further, other red jet star objects could also be loners whose burning smokes trail behind, as each star moves on a lonely path.

THE M87 JET MAY BE NOTHING MORE THAN A CONTRAIL OF SMOKE - NOT A FIERCE AND POWERFUL JET

Even mighty elliptical galaxy M87 may be a smoker, the long jet so perplexing to astronomers for so many decades, may be merely a smoke trail from a burning galaxy core as the galaxy itself moves, leaving behind a highly visible contrail known as 'the jet of M87'.

A long jet extending out of the center of Virgo cluster giant galaxy M87.

This galaxy jet is worth more than one sentence and is explored along its length in this GIC page, starting with a couple of enhanced radio telescope views of M87.

Other red jets are displayed in a Hubble composite.

THE GUM NEBULA

The Gum nebula is home to Herbig Haro objects. For instance HH-47 - a long smoke trail pictured as a red jet, is officialy classed as a Herbig Haro object in the Gum Nebula. The Gum nebula is the remants of a super nova of long ago. Current images are vague and diffuse with no clear cut features.

A Dss Deep Space Sky Survey (60x60) arcminute plate enhances to show the remnant as a long wave front with vertical heaves tonguing its leading edges, the nebula is uneven, mottled and undulated, stretching through deep space.

SPRINTLING

The difference in the two views above is that one is sprintled, the other is not. Sprintling (a well known 3d effect amongst stereo anaglyph enthusiasts) is caused when tiny point source datas cannot be properly locked in place by normal human eyesight and so 'sprintle'.

The second view (immediately above) has both heights and widths set to the same values, whereas the sprintled version has width displaced by a value of +1, and the height also displaced by a value of +1, these are extremely small changes to original image sizes but are more than enough to substantially boost apparent 3D in mono image pairs displayed for stereo overlay by merging the two images together by eyesight (sprintled version is better 3D).

Anaglyphs (two images merged to form a stereo viewed by 3D glasses) has proven that mono images contain stereo since many handsome stereo correct views have been made by anaglyph enthusiasts using only a single unaltered mono image, using anaglyph creating software to merge the two images together into one template. Anaglyph software usually is instructed to alter one or both of the two images in width and/or height to increase stereo apparant, even though some obvious but limited 3d can be correctly seen in both images being merged slightly apart but at identical sizes, one in green, the other in red, overlayed together into an anaglyph single image merger to be viewed with 3d glasses.

GIC has explored anaglyphs and has found they can be a nuisance for staging astronomy images in 3D, however one example featuring super giant spiral galaxy M101, reveals that stupendous 3D details in large images suitable for flashing on the wall of an auditorium, are possible. Click for M101 anaglyph example.

Intrinsic 3D in mono images is explored at length in GIC, here.

A MOMENT OF ASTRONOMY LORE

Herbig, an astromomer, began cataloguing knobs of gas out there in the wild on their own and presumed discharged from energitic stars. Haro discovered the 34th Herbig object found, ergo its name Herbig-Haro 34, and its astronomy shorthand name HH-34.
